About This Fundraiser
Dear family and friends,
I will be completing a 550km ride from Busan to Seoul over the week of September 11th. I ask that you would consider supporting me financially or through prayer for this ride. The proceeds of financial support will go to Oak Tree Project which raises funds for college scholarships and mentorship for orphans, and to Hope Be Restored, an anti-trafficking ministry based in Seoul.
My awareness of the global issue of sex trafficking started in 2012 when a friend of mine was doing a documentary called Aid in Art which showed young women being rehabilitated from prostitution through artistic expression. The women being rehabilitated were all my age or younger and had either been physically or economically forced into a life of selling their bodies for money. The emotional effects this had on them were heart breaking - although many of the victims had hard exterior shells, they were still scared, lost children inside. They had dreams for the future just like me but their dreams had been trampled. I just remember thinking, "That could have been me had I been born into a different family, a different community, had different circumstances."
No young adolescent girl dreams about becoming a prostitute. Her circumstances force her into that life. In South Korea, there are over 200,000 youths who run away from home each year; one survey suggests that half of the female runaways descend into prostitution. Prostitution is so rampant here that it has been estimated to make up 4% of the GDP. It is very common for a South Korean business trip or company party to end with a trip to a brothel. The devastating and long term effects on these women are not taken into consideration by the Johns, the government, or even by the women themselves.
This four day ride will help to spread awareness and to raise funds to support those who are at risk of falling into prostitution.
Our mission is to "Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute." Psalm 82:3. Please consider partnering with me to rally behind this cause.

About Ride Against Traffick 2016
The Ride Against Traffick is a four day, 550km bike ride from Busan to Seoul intended to raise awareness of the problem of human trafficking in South Korea and to fight it.
Your donations will go to two great organizations who are actively working to combat this modern-day evil: Hope Be Restored, which is one of the leading anti-trafficking ministries in Korea, and Oak Tree Project, which is a scholarship and mentoring program for orphans in Korea. The ride costs are paid completely by the participants and sponsors, so 100% of the money we receive from your donation will go straight to these organizations.
